Candace is an interpreter for both the American Revolutionary War and Civil War. She is originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, holds an Associate in Arts from Grand Rapids Community College, a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan, and a Master of Arts from Western Michigan University.

She made history as the first female African American County Commissioner in Kent County, Michigan, serving from 2011 to 2017. After moving to Durham, NC, in 2018, she joined the African American Quilt Circle of Durham and has been a member of the North Carolina Association of Black Storytellers since 2024.

Candace began sewing historical garments in 2020 and participated in her first reenactment in 2021, showcasing her work at Living History events across North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, and Texas.
